Convicted felon, attempting to evade traffic stop, arrested on multiple charges

Kenner - On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, Corey Horton, 21, who provided the home address of 2416 Williamsburg Drive, in LaPlace, was arrested and charged with the crimes of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine (5.7 grams), misdemeanor possession of marijuana (3.0 grams), possession of a schedule IV CDS (Tramadol / 4 doses without a prescription), aggravated flight from an officer (vehicle), resisting an officer, hit and run driving, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no license plate, no insurance, and no driverís license.

At approximately 12:25 a.m., Kenner Police Officer Alex Decay attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2005 Toyota Corolla, which was operated by Horton without a license plate in the 3400 block of Williams Boulevard.  Horton refused to stop his vehicle and attempted to evade officers, by entering a residential neighborhood where he began to discard numerous stop signs.  As Horton attempted to evade, he momentarily stopped in the 3400 block of Connecticut Avenue, where he abandoned his vehicle, leaving it in drive.   The abandoned vehicle proceeded forward and struck a vehicle in the 1700 block of West Esplanade.   Kenner Police Officers pursued Horton on foot.  During the foot chase, Horton discarded a clear plastic bag that contained cocaine.  Horton was captured in the 3400 block of Colorado Avenue, where he was taken into custody and found to be in possession of marijuana.  After the crash, officers also located a .40 caliber handgun in the vehicle Horton was operating along with 4 doses of Tramadol a schedule IV CDS.  The handgun was found to be stolen from Mississippi.

Horton was found to have multiple convictions and on probation.  On 8/14/2016 Horton pled guilty to contributing to the delinquency of minor.  Horton again pled guilty to possession of marijuana on 11/29/2016, and possession of cocaine and possession of stolen things 7/6/2017, which prevents him from owning or possessing a firearm.

At the time of this press release, Horton remains in custody, no bond has been set.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone with information concerning Jacoby Carter to call Kenner Police Officer Alex Decay at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
