Man charged in fatal hit and run crash
Kenner - On Sunday, January 29, 2017, at approximately 5:11 p.m., the Kenner Police Department was notifed of a traffic crash at Reverend Wilson Drive and Coleman Place in Kenner. Officers responded to the location, and learned that the crash involved a hit and run.
As a result of the investigation, it was learned that Osman Flores-Brito, 43, who provided a home address of 211 Coleman Place, in Kenner, was operating a 1998 Ford F-150 pick-up truck, that was traveling southbound in the 300 block of Coleman Place, in Kenner. Flores-Brito failed to stop at the posted stop sign, which caused the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe to serve in an attempt to avoid the crash. After swerving the Chevrolet Tahoe was impacted by Flores-Britoís vehicle, which caused the Tahoe to flip onto its side, partially ejecting the driver and passenger.
Flores-Brito after striking the vehicle failed to stop at the crash site to identify himself, nor render aid to the injured parties of the crash. Flores-Brito was later located at his residence where his vehicle was found and he was arrested.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, Jensen Ray Sheets, 20, of St. Rose was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries as a result of the crash. A female passenger, 25-years-old, was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Neither the driver or passenger of the Chevrolet Tahoe was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Flores-Brito has been arrested and charged with the crimes of negligent homicide, felony hit and run, negligent injuring, no driverís license, no insurance (crash), and stop sign violation. Flores-Brito is in the United States from Honduras, driver impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. Flores-Britoís immigration status is unknown at this time and under investigation. At the time of this press release, Flores-Brito remains in custody, no bond has been set.
