Carjacking suspect arrested

 Kenner - Within minutes of purse snatching / carjacking outside the Esplanade Mall, the Kenner Police Department arrested Donte Moore, 18, of 1142 Harrison Avenue, New Orleans, Louisiana.  Moore was charged with the crimes of carjacking, purse snatching, simple criminal damage to property, and no driverís license. 

 At approximately 2:47 p.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2016, the 68-year-old female victim was exiting her 2011 Nissan 370, when she was she was approached by Moore.  Moore immediately grabbed the victimís purse causing her to fall.  The victimís purse contained the smart key / ignition remote to her vehicle.   Moore then entered and fled taking the victimís vehicle.  Upon receiving the call for help, Kenner Police located the victimís vehicle driven by Moore in the 3000 block of Ohio Street, in Kenner.  Moore attempted to elude capture but crashed the vehicle into a fence, disabling it, in the 3100 block of Helena Street, in Kenner, where he was taken into custody.  The victim claims there was an accomplice to this incident that dropped Moore off at the Esplanade Mall.  That accomplice was not located. 


 The victim received a shoulder injury, contusions and abrasions to her right wrist and legs.  She was treated and released from a local hospital.  At the time of this press release, Moore remains in custody, no bond has been set.  This carjacking / purse snatching remains under investigation.
