Felon throws stolen gun during traffic stop
Kenner - On Wednesday, August 3, 2016, DiCarlo Walton, Jr., 27, of 501 Mockingbird Lane, St. Rose, was arrested and charged with the crimes of felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of marijuana 4th offense, and possession of a firearm while in possession of a CDS. Walton also received traffic citations for the violations of general speed law (45 mph in a 30 mph zone) and driver, no seat belt.
On Wednesday, members of the Kenner Police Department attempted to stop Walton, on 3rd Street, in Kenner. Walton was operating a 2001 Nissan Altima and was traveling 45 mph in a 30 mph zone. He was also operating the vehicle without wearing his seat belt. As KPD members attempted to conduct a stop for the traffic violations, Walton immediately tossed a gun from the vehicle, before bringing the vehicle to a stop in the 400 block of Farrar Avenue, in Kenner. As Walton exited the vehicle he also discarded a folded ten-dollar bill and white towel on the ground. Inside the folded ten-dollar bill was marijuana (.04 grams).
Walton has felony convictions for battery on a police officer, possession of marijuana (3rd offense), and possession of cocaine, which prevents him from possessing a firearm. The firearm a SigSauer P224 9 millimeter handgun was found to be stolen. The gun was reported stolen on April 28, 2016, in Jefferson Parish. The gun was taken during the burglary of an unlocked vehicle in the 1900 block of Oak Creek Lane, in River Ridge.
At the time of this press release, DiCarlo Walton, Jr., remains in custody, no bond has been set.
