Arrest warrant issued for man who abandoned child during a narcotics traffic stop

Kenner - On Tuesday, October 13, 2015, the Kenner Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Ron Adams, 35, who has a last known address in the 2600 block of  Augusta Street, in Kenner.  The warrant charges Adams with the crime of criminal abandonment.

On Monday, October 12, 2015, at 6:50 p.m., Kenner Police Narcotic detectives were involved in a brief vehicle chase with Adams which led them into Metairie.  Ron Adams (driver) and the passenger Corey Daniels, age 39, of LaPlace, abandoned their vehicle on N. Howard and Shirley Street, in Metairie, leaving the engine running and doors open.   After a subsequent foot pursuit through a residential neighborhood, Daniels was eventually apprehended and found to be in possession of 5.9 grams of heroin.  Adams was able to escape apprehension.

Disturbing, was when detectives returned to the vehicle, they discovered two (2) small children ages 2 and 4 (both boys) in the back seat of the vehicle that Adams and Daniels fled from.  Both children were crying for their fathers who abandoned them to avoid arrest.  Both children were examined by EMTís and subsequently released to their respective family members who were summoned to the scene.

Adams at the time of this offense was on active parole for the crimes of felony carrying of firearms (2-counts), aggravated flight from and officer, and aggravated battery, until 5/2/2017.

Corey Daniels was arrested and charged with the crimes of possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (heroin) and criminal abandonment.   Daniels remains in custody no bond has been set.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Ron Adams, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
