Death investigation leads to criminal charges

Kenner - On Tuesday, March 3, 2015, the Kenner Police Department arrested Kevin Jago, 33, of 4136 Georgia Avenue, Apartment C, in Kenner.  Jago was charged with the crimes of obstruction of justice, first degree injuring of public records (false report), illegal possession of heroin (residual amounts), and prohibited acts (drug paraphernalia).

On Sunday, February 22, 2015, at 05:50 a.m., the Kenner Police Department received a telephone call from Kevin Jago reporting that his girlfriend, Cristen Lacroix, 26, of Kenner was unresponsive and had overdosed on drugs.  When first responders arrived at the location, they had to resuscitate Lacroix who was transported to Ochsner Kenner for treatment.   Lacroix’s death was pronounced 3 days later on February 25, 2015.

Jago told responding officers that Lacroix left their apartment around midnight to go “out for drinks with some friends,” but was unable to specify who the friends were.  Jago claimed that Lacroix knocked on the door about 5:45 a.m., and upon him opening the front door, he saw a white truck driving away from the parking lot.  Jago advised he wasn’t familiar with the vehicle and asked Lacroix where she had been.  Jago reported Lacroix told him she had “done a little coke,” at which time she fainted and fell backwards onto the pavement.

As a result of a police investigation, detectives obtained video evidence which supported Jago intentionally obstructed justice and lied about the incident.  The video revealed Lacroix never left the apartment; she wasn’t dropped off at the location, nor was there a white truck as Jago stated.  The video revealed Jago carrying Lacroix’s lifeless body out the front door of his apartment where he laid her on the pavement until first responders arrived.  Investigators searched Jago’s apartment and located residual amounts of heroin and drug paraphernalia inside his apartment.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone with information concerning Kevin Jago or Cristen Lacroix to call Kenner Police Detective Brad Ricke at (504) 712-2214, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.  At the time of this press release, Jago remains in custody; his bond was set at $42,500.00.
