 Shift manger and suspect arrested in May armed robbery of the Dollar General Store in Kenner

KENNER - On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, Renard Smith, 18, who provided a home address of 945 27th Street, in Kenner, was arrested and charged with the crime of armed robbery (use of firearm) and criminal conspiracy to armed robbery, concerning a May 8, 2015, robbery that occurred at the Dollar General Store, located at 231 Veterans Boulevard, in Kenner. 


On May 8, 2015, at 10:07 p.m., Smith and an unknown male suspect entered the Dollar General Store armed with handguns.  Both attempted to conceal their identities and demanded money at gunpoint.  As the result of the armed robbery, both Smith and the unknown suspect fled, taking cash.  Due to the investigation, witnesses were located who recognized Smith as one of the perpetrators of the armed robbery.   Smith was located on Wednesday (June 17, 2015) at his residence (945 27th Street, in Kenner), where he was arrested. 


In addition to Smithís arrest, Jasmine Braggs, 19, a shift manager who worked for Dollar General was arrested Friday, June 19, 2015.  Braggs who provided the home address of 2624 Dawson Street in Kenner was charged with the crimes of armed robbery (use of firearm) and criminal conspiracy to commit armed robbery.  Braggs who was working as a shift manager at the time of the robbery failed to follow closing procedures when the business was robbed.  Suspicious, Braggs was interviewed and eventually confessed that Renard Smith had approached her about his plan to rob the store.  Smith needed money to purchase tickets to a Meek Mills concert which took place May 10, 2015.  On the evening the robbery; Braggs did not follow closing procedures and left the business door unlocked and had opened a safe prior to closing.  Braggs initially denied knowing anything about the robbery, but admitted that after the robbery she and Smith attended the concert together, paying for tickets from proceeds taken during the armed robbery.    


At the time of this press release, Renard Smith and Jasmine Braggs remain in custody.  Smithís bond was set at $360,000.00 and Braggs at $210,000.00.  The other male suspect has not been identified and remains at large.
