Kenner salon receptionist arrested, accused of forging prescriptions for weight loss drug

Michelle Hunter

Local and federal authorities arrested the receptionist at a Kenner salon accused of forging prescriptions for the weight loss drug Phentermine. Terri-Lynn Killett, 39, posed as a doctor and wrote at least 90 prescriptions for the drug, said Sgt. Brian McGregor, spokesman for the Kenner Police.

"The case is still under investigation," said McGregor, whose department is working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Tactical Diversion Squad.

Authorities are still trying to sort out how Killett operated. She worked at La Vie De Luxe Salon & Spa, 3612 Florida Ave., Kenner, McGregor said. Clients of the salon can choose from the usual list of services, including haircuts, color, extensions, facials and massages.

But the spa offers weight loss services and employs a doctor, according to authorities. Portraying herself as a physician, Killett used the doctor's DEA-assigned registration number to write prescriptions for cash, McGregor said.

A pharmacy notified the doctor of discrepancies with the prescriptions. The doctor contacted the DEA, McGregor said.

So far, authorities have tracked 90 prescriptions for Phentermine that Killett wrote for other people, McGregor said. Those were filled at various Kenner pharmacies.

However, Killett used the doctor's DEA number to write two prescriptions for herself for Adderall, a medication used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, according to McGregor.

Authorities didn't reveal any other details, such as whether Killett secreted the doctor's prescription pad for her use. It's also unclear whether Killett's "patients" got prescriptions at the salon or elsewhere, perhaps at her residence.

Killett, of 141 Woodlake Blvd., Kenner, was arrested Thursday (June 26) and booked with 92 counts of forgery, McGregor said. No bond information was available.

Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who received a prescription from Killett, McGregor said. Those with information about the case are asked to contact Detective Donald Herrmann by calling 504.712.2222.
