Kenner woman arrested and charged with the crime of second degree murder

Kenner - On Friday, January 10, 2014, Lana Marie Cristina, 20, who provided the home address of 2136 Kansas Avenue, Kenner, was arrested by the Kenner Police Department and charged with the crime of second degree murder.

On October 27, 2013, the Kenner Police Department responded to Cristina’s home, in reference to a female appearing to be passed out and unresponsive.  Upon officers arrival they discovered the body of Amber Hollis, 23, of Kenner inside the home.  Hollis was pronounced dead on scene.

An autopsy conducted by the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office later revealed that Hollis’ death was the result of “Acute Heroin Toxicity.”

After obtaining the autopsy report this month (January 2014) Cristina who initially denied knowing where Hollis obtained the heroin admitted to Detective George Hoffmann, that she facilitated a drug sale and distributed Heroin to Hollis prior to her death.

Cristina was charged based on the Louisiana Criminal Statute 14:30.1A (3) which reads “A. Second degree murder is the killing of a human being: (3) When the offender unlawfully distributes or dispenses a controlled dangerous substance listed in Schedules I through V of the Uniformed Controlled Dangerous Substance law*, or any combination thereof, which is the direct cause of the death of the recipient who ingested or consumed the controlled dangerous substance.”

Cristina was transferred to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, where Cristina’s bond was set at $500,000.  At the time of this press release, Cristina remains in custody.

Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
