Two arrested for Aggravated Burglary in Kenner

Kenner - On Monday, August 25, 2014, the Kenner Police Department investigated an aggravated burglary that occurred at the Travel Best Inn, located at 2240 Veterans Boulevard, in Kenner.  At approximately 10:09 p.m., Kenner Police received a 9-1-1 telephone call from a Hispanic male who reported that a suspect wearing a mask and holding a black handgun entered his room and tried to rob him.

Officers responding to the location met with the victim, who advised he was lying in bed with the room door propped open, when a person walked into his room, “yelled,” and produced a handgun.  The victim, not understanding what the person was actually demanding because he only spoke Spanish, put his hands up and did nothing further.  The suspect then fled the hotel and was last seen running westbound on the canal bank towards Williams Boulevard.

While officers were investigating this incident, information was received from a witness identifying the possible perpetrator and his location.  Tuesday morning (August 26, 2014 / 12:30 a.m.) as a result of the investigation  Kenner Police arrested Jeremy Ware, 19, who was staying at the Contempra Inn, located at 2820 Williams Boulevard, Kenner, and Bernard Torres, 27, who was staying at the Travel Best Inn, and charged them with the crime of aggravated burglary.

As a result of a search of Ware’s room, officers / detectives located at black handgun and a black and gold mask that the victim identified as the ones utilized in this incident.  Ware was the person who was wearing the mask and armed with the handgun.  Torres was arrested because he participated in the incident and obvious planning and distracted the victim in such a way that Ware was able to commit the offense.  It should be noted that the handgun used in this incident was found to be an air soft gun which was the exact replica of a semi-automatic handgun.

Both Jeremy Ware and Bernard Torres remain in custody, no bond was set.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone with information concerning this incident, Jeremy Ware, or Bernard Torres, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
