Kenner man fleeing traffic stop arrested

Kenner - A Kenner man has been arrested after he attempted to flee officers once stopped for a traffic violation.   On Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at 03:30 a.m., Corey Ursin, 38, who provided the home address of 2713 Dawson Street, Kenner, was stopped driving a 2014 Toyota Camry.  Ursin was stopped because he ran the stop sign located at the 25th Street & Roosevelt Boulevard.  Ursin first stopped, but as the officer exited the marked police unit, Ursin fled and traveled in excess of 60 mph in a 20 mph zone in an attempt to flee police.

Ursinís vehicle came to a stop once he crashed into a residence as he turned onto Indiana Avenue at 26th Street.  After crashing Ursin abandoned his vehicle and began to jump neighboring fences.   Ursin resisted arrest but was taken into custody, and charged with aggravated flight from an officer, hit and run, resisting an officer, seat belt, and stop sign violations.   In addition, Ursin was charged with false personation of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and simple criminal damage to property.  While running; Ursin discarded a substance that was packaged and appeared to be cocaine.  Also, as Ursin was being placed inside a police unit, Ursin damaged the police unit by striking it resulting in damage to the vehicle.   There was minor damage to the residence that Ursin struck and moderate damage to his vehicle.

Ursin has a lengthy criminal history and has prior felony convictions for the crimes of aggravated battery, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of oxycodone and hydrocodone.  Ursin remains in custody, no bond has been set.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone with information concerning this incident or Corey Ursin, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
