Kenner Police to participate in Law Enforcement Torch Run on May 23, public invited
KENNER — The Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Louisiana is a community event that aims to increase both funds and awareness for the more than 13,500 athletes of Special Olympics Louisiana. Students, Military, and Civilians will join forces with the Kenner Police Department and over 15 different federal and local Law Enforcement agencies to raise awareness of Special Olympics Louisiana athletes. The 28th annual Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Louisiana is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2013. Local officers have carried the “Flame of Hope” for Special Olympics throughout the area since the event came to Louisiana in 1985. To date, the Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest fundraising and public awareness campaign for Special Olympics programs around the world.
The route for the Jefferson Parish leg of the Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run:
Beginning at approximately 8:00 a.m., runners will start out at Zephyr Stadium, 6000 Airline Hwy. in Metairie, and will run west on Airline Drive to Williams Blvd. They will travel north on Williams Blvd. towards Veterans Blvd. Runners will then travel west on Veterans Blvd. towards the Kenner Police Complex, located at 500 Veterans Blvd, where the run will end. The length of the route is approximately 6.3 miles.
