Kenner - A Pike County, Mississippi man wanted for armed robbery and questioning in a murder has been arrested by the Kenner Police Department.

On Thursday, January 19, 2012, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Kenner Police Department received a crime tip that Damion Ferguson, 25, of 1009 Miller Lane, Summit, Mississippi was in Kenner.  The tip revealed that Ferguson was wanted in Pike County, Mississippi for armed robbery and a possible murder and could be found in the 300 block of Farrar Avenue.  Working with authorities with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office the Kenner Police Department was able verify that Ferguson was wanted and had outstanding warrants with extradition for his arrest.

Kenner Police Officers responding to the area in an attempt to locate Ferguson encountered him in the 300 block of Farrar Avenue, as he was approaching a 2004 Hyundai Accent.  Before he could enter the vehicle; Ferguson saw officers and attempted to evade arrest leading officers on a foot chase that ended in the 800 block of Short Street where he was taken into custody.   At the time of Ferguson’s arrest he was found in possession of a hand rolled cigarette that contained marijuana.  A check of the license plate on the vehicle Ferguson had in his possession revealed the license plate had been reported stolen in New Orleans (January 19, 2012).  Ferguson was arrested for the crime of resisting and officer by flight, possession of Marijuana .8 grams, and possession of stolen things (license plate).  Ferguson was later booked as a fugitive from Pike County, Mississippi.  Ferguson will be transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, located in Gretna where he’ll begin the extradition process.

The vehicle Ferguson was driving was secured and towed to the Kenner Police Department, who is presently working with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.  Anyone needing information regarding the Mississippi armed robbery and/or murder should contact Chief Steve Rushing with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office at (601) 783-6767.
