Parolee arrested in possession of a firearm with obliterated serial number

Kenner - On Tuesday, June 7, 2011, Jeffrey Johnson, 29, of 1009 31st Street, Kenner, was arrested for the crimes illegal possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies, possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number, battery on a police officer, resisting an officer and a traffic violation. 

At approximately 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2011, Kenner Police Officer John Sharai stopped Johnson for a traffic violation (proper signal to turn).  Seeing a gun in plain view inside the vehicle, Johnson was asked to exit the vehicle at which time Johnson struck Officer Sharai and began to run.  Johnson who is presently on parole for vehicular homicide (until 8-7-2011) and has a felony conviction for possession of cocaine was captured and arrested.  The gun found inside the vehicle, was a .40 caliber handgun which serial number had been filed off.  The gun was loaded and had an extended magazine (22 round capacity magazine).

Johnson has been transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center where he remains in custody.  No bond has been set.  In addition to the above arrest, Johnson was arrested and detained by the Department of Probation and Parole for parole violations.
