Parolee arrested for robbery after snatching child’s birthday money

Kenner - On Tuesday, June 7, 2011, Blaine Pierce, 32, of 217 Sycamore Street, Hahnville, Louisiana was arrested for the crimes of simple robbery and resisting arrest by flight, after he snatched money from a purse inside a Wal-Mart in Kenner. 

At 8:10 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2011, Kenner Police Sergeant Brian McGregor and Special Response Team Officer Adam Schouest were outside the Wal-Mart located at 8912 Veterans Boulevard, in Kenner, when they observed Pierce run out the retail doors pursued by a Wal-Mart manager.  Sergeant McGregor and Officer Schouest began to pursue Pierce who ran into the Home Depot parking lot and inside the store where he was captured and detained.  It was then learned, that Pierce had approached a mother (the victim) who was shopping inside the store with her 3 year old child, purchasing presents utilizing birthday money that the child received.  While the victim was shopping, Pierce approached the victim snatching money and a debit card from within the purse that the victim was holding.  The money and debit card taken from the victim were recovered and returned.  

At the time of Pierce’s arrest he was on probation / parole for the crime of possession of marijuana and simple burglary.  Pierce has a lengthy criminal history; having been convicted of the crimes of simple burglary, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and illegal possession of stolen things.   Pierce was additionally arrested and detained by the Department of Probation and Parole.  At the time of this press release, Pierce has been transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, where he remains in custody. No bond has been set.
