Homeless man arrested 2nd time in 8 days for committing multiple business burglaries

Kenner - A man who claims he is homeless was arrested a second time in 8 days after committing additional business burglaries.  At approximately 1000 a.m., Monday, January 10, 2011, Kenner Police Officers responded to the Super Asian Buffet, located at 3900 Williams Boulevard, Kenner, to investigate a business burglary.  Upon officer’s arrival, officers discovered that someone had broken a window to gain entry into the closed business.  Checks and an undetermined amount of money were taken from the business.

Upon viewing video surveillance; investigating officers / detectives noticed that the perpetrator was in fact Manuel Victor Castro-Figueroa 59, who also uses the name Victor Castso.  Castro-Figueroa was known to Kenner Police due to the fact he was arrested on January 2, 2011, after he committed a theft at the Jumbo Buffet, located at 3550 Williams Boulevard.  At the time of his arrest, Castro-Figueroa was in possession of property taken from a December 31, 2010 business burglary that occurred at Chile Tomate Y Cebolla Supermarket, located at 3215 Georgia Avenue.  Although Castro was arrested (January 2, 2010), for the crimes of theft, simple burglary, and simple criminal damage to property, he was released January 5, 2010 from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center due to prison overcrowding.

Having observed Castro-Figueroa on video surveillance, patrol officers, detectives, and members of the Special Response Team, and Bike Patrol began a block by block search for Castro-Figueroa who was known to frequent the Williams Boulevard / Driftwood Subdivision.  Castro-Figueroa was located by investigating officers in the 3700 of block of Martinique Avenue, in Kenner.  At the time of his arrest he was found to be in possession of property taken from the Super Asian Buffet.

Castro-Figueroa waived his rights and was interviewed by Detective Jesse Johnson and Officer Ninoska Guggenheim.  During the interview, Castro-Figueroa admitted to the Super Asian Buffet business burglary.  In addition, Castso also admitted to two additional business burglaries that occurred January 8, 2011 at the Union Supermarket, located at 2105 West Esplanade Avenue, Kenner, and January 9, 2010 at Servicios Latinos, located at 1111 Veterans Boulevard, Kenner.

Castro-Figueroa was arrested and charged with the crimes of simple burglary (3-counts) and simple criminal damage to property (3-counts).  At the time of this press release, Castso remains in the custody of the Kenner Police Department.  Castso will be transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center for a magistrate hearing for bond.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 821-2222.

Detective Jesse Johnson and Officer Wayne Glaser are in charge of the investigations.
