Destrehan man arrested committing vehicle burglaries

Kenner - On Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Kenner Police Officer Cesar Cruz was flagged down by a witness who advised of a possible vehicle burglary in progress, inside the employee parking lot of the Treasure Chest Casino, located at 4560 Williams Boulevard, Kenner.  Officer Cruz approached the area and observed the suspect identified as Erwin Lee Gill, 27, who provided an address of 261 Dunleith Street, in Destrehan, inside a vehicle.  Upon Gill seeing Officer Cruz, he ran leading Officer Cruz on a foot chase to the Sugar Mill Apartment Complex (4520 Williams Boulevard) where he was captured.  Gill was arrested after it was determined he broke a window to the vehicle he was see in, and was in possession of property taken from inside the vehicle.

It was determined that Gill utilized a metal tow hitch to break the window to the vehicle.  A canvass of the parking lot revealed Gill had burglarized a second vehicle in the parking lot.  Gill was charged with simple burglary (2-counts), possession of burglary tools, and illegal possession of stolen things.  At the time of this press release, Gill remains in the custody of the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center, no bond has been set.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 821-2222.

Officer Cesar Cruz is in charge of the investigations.
