Traffic crash fatality

KENNER - On Wednesday, February 17, 2010, the Kenner Police Department investigated a traffic crash fatality that occurred in the 100 block of West Airline Highway, at the Kenner Corp. limit and St. Charles Parish line.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, February 17, 2010, the Kenner Police Department responded to a single vehicle crash.  A preliminary investigation revealed the driver, identified as Manuel Lee Prater, 49, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was driving a 2004 Dodge SQ3 dually pickup westbound in the left lane.  For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled into the eastbound lane where it left the roadway at the entrance of 181 West Airline Highway. After striking a curb, the vehicle continued over a levee embankment, though a chain link fence and came to a stop after striking a steel barrier.  Prater was pronounced dead on scene.  Prater was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the traffic crash.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

Officer Gerald Miller is in charge of the investigation.
