Kenner man arrested for aggravated incest

KENNER On October 8, 2009, at 3:54 p.m., Kenner Police arrested Mauricio Garcia, age 25, of Kenner at his residence. To protect the identity of the juvenile, police are not releasing the address.

The incident first came to light on January 6, 2009, when a 14 year-old female juvenile was arrested for running away from home. The juvenile disclosed to officers her reasons for running away from home were because her stepfather touched her inappropriately in the home and had made numerous sexual advances towards her.

Detective Joseph McRae, who is assigned to the Juvenile Division, scheduled an interview for the juvenile at the Children’s Advocacy Center. During that interview, the juvenile disclosed to counselors that Garcia came into her bedroom, cupped her breast, rubbed her stomach, and put his hand on her thigh. In a separate incident, Garcia approached the juvenile in the living room, pulled out his penis, placed it in her face, and said, “Why won’t you have sex with me” and “I can show you a true man.” Detective McRae eventually obtained an arrest warrant for Garcia.

Garcia was charged with aggravated incest and indecent behavior with juveniles. Garcia will be transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. Garcia faces a maximum sentence of 27 years in prison, if convicted on both charges and must register as a sex offender.

Detective Joseph McRae is in charge of the investigation.

Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information on this incident to contact the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 821-1111. Callers may remain anonymous.
