Subject
barricades himself in Kenner home
KENNER – On May 2, 2009, at 7:50
p.m., Kenner Police Officers responded to a disturbance
complaint at 1504 Clay Street. Officers arrived on scene and
spoke to the subject’s wife. While interviewing the wife
outside, officers heard an apparent gunshot from within the
residence. The man refused to exit the residence at the
officer’s request and the S.W.A.T. team was activated.
Information from the wife suggested the man was heavily
intoxicated. S.W.A.T. negotiators tried for several hours to
make contact with the subject by telephone, but to no avail.
At 11:09 p.m., David Upton, age 58, exited
the residence at the urging of S.W.A.T. Negotiator Vincent
Miranti and was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Upton
was taken to East Jefferson General Hospital for evaluation.
Officers recovered a .38 caliber revolver from the bedroom.
