Two students
charged with aggravated arson concerning fire at Roosevelt
Middle School
Kenner - On
Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at 11:20 a.m., Kenner Police Officer
Larry Cosse, a school resource officer at Roosevelt Middle
School responded to a fire alarm in the Annex building which is
located north of the main school building. The school was
immediately evacuated as Officer Cosse approached the area and
observed smoke coming from the boys’ bathroom. The Kenner Fire
Department arrived on scene and immediately extinguished the
fire. Upon inspecting the bathroom, it was discovered that
someone had intentionally set fire to a toilet paper dispenser
and the stall that was connected.
A short time later, Officer
Cosse learned that just before the fire, two students had
permission from their teacher to go to the restroom. Both
students were separated and brought to the main office area.
Both students, a 14 year old from the Susan Park subdivision,
and a 13 year old from the Westgate subdivision admitted that
they intentionally set the fire. Both were charged with the
crime of aggravated arson.
Detective Joseph McRae and
Officer Larry Cosse are in charge of the investigation.
