Illegal immigrants extradited and
arrested in reference to attempted armed robbery / aggravated
Kenner -Two illegal
immigrants in the United States
were extradited from
Houston, Texas,
on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, and charged in reference to an
attempted armed robbery that occurred on June 5, 2009, at Dreams
Communications & More, located at
3226 Williams
Boulevard,
Kenner.
Christian
Guieterrez, 29, and Mauricio Moreno, 42, who both provided
addresses in Houston, Texas were formally charged and remain in
custody of the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.
Bond has not been set.
Guieterrez was charged with the crimes of
attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery, illegal carrying of
weapons and aggravated assault (gun).
Moreno
was charged with the crimes of attempted armed robbery, illegal
carrying of weapons and aggravated assault (gun).
An immigration detainer was also placed on
Guieterrez and Moreno.
On June 5, 2009, at approximately 11:39
a.m., three Hispanic males entered the business of Dreams
Communications and More.
Two of the Hispanic males were
carrying weapons and demanded money while the third Hispanic
male waited by the door as a look out.
The victim and a worker were lead to
the rear office of the business, where the victim and one of the
Hispanic males began fighting in the rear office.
One of the Hispanic males (Guieterrez)
struck the victim in the head with the butt of a handgun.
A business owner working in a nearby
business heard noises coming from the business and went to see
what was going on.
The witness (other business owner)
observed a Hispanic male by the front door.
The witness produced a weapon and
the Hispanic male that was standing at the front door exited the
business and fled on foot.
The two armed Hispanic males fled
the business running towards a
Lincoln
Town
car that was parked near an adjacent business.
The witness fired at the suspect’s
vehicle as it fled eastbound on 33rd Street.
On Sunday, June 7, 2009, the
Lincoln
Town car was located at 2500 34th
Street,
in Kenner.
Upon executing a search warrant on
the vehicle, Detective Jeff Adams located property inside the
vehicle belonging to Gutierrez.
The victim subsequently identified
Gutierrez as one of the three individuals responsible for the
armed robbery / aggravated battery.
With the assistance of the ATF Houston (Texas)
Office, Detective Adams learned that Gutierrez’s girlfriend was
the owner of the
Lincoln
Town car used
in the robbery.
The girlfriend’s brother was
incarcerated for being involved in a similar robbery and was
known to be part of a group of Honduran immigrants traveling
from Texas
to neighboring states robbing Hispanic businesses.
While working with the ATF Houston
Office, Detective Adams was able to develop
Moreno
as an associate of Gutierrez’s.
A photographic line up was
subsequently shown to the victims who positively identified
Moreno
as one of the three individuals responsible for the above
incident.
