Illegal immigrants extradited and arrested in reference to attempted armed robbery / aggravated

Kenner -Two illegal immigrants in the United States were extradited from Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, and charged in reference to an attempted armed robbery that occurred on June 5, 2009, at Dreams Communications & More, located at 3226 Williams Boulevard, Kenner.  Christian Guieterrez, 29, and Mauricio Moreno, 42, who both provided addresses in Houston, Texas were formally charged and remain in custody of the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.  Bond has not been set.

Guieterrez was charged with the crimes of attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery, illegal carrying of weapons and aggravated assault (gun).

Moreno was charged with the crimes of attempted armed robbery, illegal carrying of weapons and aggravated assault (gun).

An immigration detainer was also placed on Guieterrez and Moreno.

On June 5, 2009, at approximately 11:39 a.m., three Hispanic males entered the business of Dreams Communications and More.  Two of the Hispanic males were carrying weapons and demanded money while the third Hispanic male waited by the door as a look out.  The victim and a worker were lead to the rear office of the business, where the victim and one of the Hispanic males began fighting in the rear office.  One of the Hispanic males (Guieterrez) struck the victim in the head with the butt of a handgun.  A business owner working in a nearby business heard noises coming from the business and went to see what was going on.  The witness (other business owner) observed a Hispanic male by the front door.  The witness produced a weapon and the Hispanic male that was standing at the front door exited the business and fled on foot.  The two armed Hispanic males fled the business running towards a Lincoln Town car that was parked near an adjacent business.  The witness fired at the suspect’s vehicle as it fled eastbound on 33rd Street.

On Sunday, June 7, 2009, the Lincoln Town car was located at 2500 34th Street, in Kenner.  Upon executing a search warrant on the vehicle, Detective Jeff Adams located property inside the vehicle belonging to Gutierrez.  The victim subsequently identified Gutierrez as one of the three individuals responsible for the armed robbery / aggravated battery.

With the assistance of the ATF Houston (Texas) Office, Detective Adams learned that Gutierrez’s girlfriend was the owner of the Lincoln Town car used in the robbery.  The girlfriend’s brother was incarcerated for being involved in a similar robbery and was known to be part of a group of Honduran immigrants traveling from Texas to neighboring states robbing Hispanic businesses.  While working with the ATF Houston Office, Detective Adams was able to develop Moreno as an associate of Gutierrez’s.  A photographic line up was subsequently shown to the victims who positively identified Moreno as one of the three individuals responsible for the above incident.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident or the third individual involved in the robbery, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 821-2222.

Detective Jeff Adams is in charge of the investigation.
