Burglary suspects arrested

Kenner - On Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at approximately 6:19 p.m., Kenner Police officers responded to an attempted residential burglary complaint located in the 900 block of Ronson Street, in Kenner.  Officer Darren Rappold learned that the victim was informed by neighbors that a man was in her backyard.  The victim discovered that someone attempted to force entry into her residence by breaking a rear window screen.  As police officers were responding to the victim’s complaint, the victim and witnesses saw the male subject in another neighbor’s rear yard.   Officers located and arrested, Roberto Barquero, 17, who provided a home address of 3840 Arizona Avenue, Kenner, hiding beneath a boat in the 900 block of Ronson Street.  At the time of arrest, Barquero was in possession of the victim’s purse that was earlier located on a table in the victim’s rear yard.

Barquero was interviewed by Kenner Police Detectives George Hoffmann and Herbert Hille.  During interview, Barquero confessed to the Ronson Street incident and to an earlier burglary of a neighbor’s home, located in the 3800 block of Arizona Avenue.  Entry was made in the Arizona Avenue burglary through a open side door.  Property belonging to the victim was recovered in Barquero’s possession and in his home.  While conducting the investigation, detectives learned that Sean Mayer, 18, who provided the home address of 676 Mayfair Lane, Kenner, was also responsible for the Arizona Street burglary.

Barquero was charged with the crimes of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, attempted simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, theft, illegal possession of stolen things, battery on a police officer, resisting an officer and illegal possession of Alprazolam, which was found in Barquero’s possession.

Mayer was located and charged with the crime of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

Both Barquero and Mayer were transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.  At the time of this press release, both remain in custody.  Bond has not been set.  Officers Darren Rappold and Christina Urrata are in charge of the investigation.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 821-2222.
