Females arrested for multiple vehicle burglaries in Kenner

KENNER On Thursday, July 16th, 2009, Channa Boswell, age 18, of Kenner, and a 16 year-old female, of Kenner, were arrested for multiple vehicle burglaries committed between July 8th and 14th. The females were developed as suspects after they were captured on video surveillance using one of the victim’s credit cards at a local convenience store. The females confessed to several vehicle burglaries in their Lesan subdivision, which was off of Airline Drive near Louis Armstrong Airport. Detectives searched the females’ residence and recovered several pieces of property (speakers, purse, sunglasses, and an additional credit card), which were taken in the burglaries. Channa said she committed the burglaries because she was bored and the 16 year-old female said she needed money.

Channa was charged with five (5) counts of simple burglary. If convicted of each count, she faces up to 60 years in prison. She was transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna.

The 16 year-old female was charged with five (5) counts of simple burglary. She was already on probation for theft and had an active arrest warrant for contempt of court. She was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Harvey.

It should be noted that the vehicles they burglarized were all unlocked. Police are asking that citizens be mindful of securing their vehicles, which will serve as a deterrent in most of the burglaries.

Detective Jesse Johnson is in charge of the investigation.

Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information on this incident to contact the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 821-1111. Callers may remain anonymous.
