KENNER POLICE LOOKING FOR VICTIMS
OF A TELEPHONE SCAM
Kenner - Kenner
Police are looking for possible victims of a telephone scam in
which (4) victims have been identified.
Kenner Police Detectives are investigating (4) cases in which
the victims have received a phone call from a female that is
very upset and begins crying. When the victim inquires as to
“who is this” the caller responds with “you know who this is…”
If the victim suggests a person that they believe it to be, then
the caller takes on that identity.
The
caller informs the victim that she is in police custody for
writing bad checks and needs $1000 to keep from going to jail.
She claims that a cousin has given her $500 and needs $500
more. If the victim agrees to help, the caller and the cousin
gets on the phone and offers to meet to pick up the money. They
arrange for the victim to meet the cousin and exchange the
money.
Detective David Stromeyer
is investigating the incidents. If you have been a victim of
this scam, you are encouraged to contact Detective Stromeyer at
(504) 712-2214 to report the crime.
Chief Steve Caraway urges
anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the
Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at
(504) 822-1111.
