Vehicle slams into house leaving two injured, one arrested

Kenner – On Thursday, May 29, 2008, at approximately 0254 a.m., the Kenner Police Department was notified of a traffic crash in which a vehicle struck and entered a residence located at 3420 Arkansas Avenue, Kenner.  A preliminary investigation revealed that Sharon Crosby, 43, who provided the home address of 2715 Kansas Avenue, apartment 1, Kenner, was operating her 2004 Jeep eastbound on West Esplanade Avenue.  Crosby failed to maintain control of her vehicle and left the roadway.  After leaving the roadway, Crosby first struck a utility pole, second a barrier fence, and then stuck and entered the residence located at 3420 Arkansas Avenue.  The traffic crash caused heavy damage to the home and injured two occupants who were inside.  One of the injured occupants was trapped inside the residence.  Both occupants were transported by East Jefferson Ambulance to Ochsner Kenner where they remain in critical condition.  One victim has internal bleeding, while the second victim sustained a serious injury to his arm which may cause possible loss of function and surgery to repair.

Officers investigating the traffic crash suspected driver impairment as the cause of the crash.  Crosby failed a standard field sobriety test as well as a chemical breath test.  Crosby was charged with the crimes of first degree vehicle injury (2-counts), driving while intoxicated, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.  Crosby does have a prior July 2, 2006 arrest for driving while intoxicated and disregarding a stop sign.  On July 16, 2007, Crosby pled guilty to an alcohol related offense.  She was given a suspended 120 day sentence and 3 months probation.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

Traffic investigators Ronald Bertucci and Jon Cryer are investigating this incident.
