Robbery suspect apprehended

KENNER – On Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 4:10 p.m., Kenner detectives apprehended Michael Cook, age 30, of 2840 Idaho Avenue, apartment 115 in Kenner. Cook is accused of robbing the front desk clerk at the Contempra Inn hotel located at 2820 Williams Boulevard, on April 19, 2008.

As detectives were entering Cook’s apartment, he was preparing a marijuana cigarette. Cook was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Kenner Police Department where he later confessed to the robbery.

Cook was charged with first degree robbery and illegal possession of marijuana at 1/10 of a gram.

Cook was charged with first degree robbery because he implied and led the victim to believe he was armed with a dangerous weapon during the offense. If convicted of first degree robbery alone, Cook faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

Detective Brian McGregor is in charge of the investigation. Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information on this incident to contact the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 821-1111. Callers may remain anonymous.
