Kenner Police Department to participate in

Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run on May 22

KENNER—The Kenner Police Department along with other law enforcement agencies in southeastern Louisiana will participate in the 23rd annual Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run on Thursday, May 22, 2008.  Officers with the Kenner Police Department have carried the flame through the streets of Kenner since the event came to Louisiana in 1985.

To date, the Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest fundraising and public awareness campaign for Special Olympics programs around the world.  Last year’s Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run raised more than $170,000 for Special Olympics Louisiana.  The motto for the 2008 Louisiana Law Enforcement Torch Run is, “If not you…then who?”

The route for the Kenner Police Department will be as follows:  Beginning at approximately 9:00 a.m., runners will start out at 5051 Williams Blvd. and proceed south on Williams Blvd. to West Esplanade Ave.  They will then go west on West Esplanade Ave. to Loyola Drive and continue going south on Loyola Drive to Veterans Blvd.  The run will continue east on Veterans Blvd. until runners reach the Kenner Police Complex, located at 500 Veterans Blvd.  The approximate length of the route is 4.5 miles.

For more information:  For more information on this event, please contact the KPD Community Relations Division at (504) 712-2294 or at nguggenheim@kennerpd.com.
