Elderly man arrested for shooting girlfriend

KENNER –  On Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 0856 hours, Herman Daniels, age 87, of 725 Farm Street, Kenner, was arrested at his residence after he shot his live-in girlfriend, Francis Clark, age 53, of Kenner. The two were involved in a verbal argument over Clark allowing her brother to move into the residence without Daniels’ permission. The argument escalated, Daniels retrieved a .38 caliber handgun, and shot Clark one time. The projectile entered Clark’s right thigh and lodged into her left thigh. Clark was transported to University Hospital where she was treated for her injury. The injury did not appear to be life threatening.

Officers located Daniels at the residence and retrieved the handgun from his pocket without incident. Daniels was charged with aggravated battery and transported to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

Officers Gregory Alphonso and Keenan Jackson are in charge of the investigation. Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information on this incident to contact the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
