Kenner-On Thursday, January
3, 2008, James Shafer, 18, of Metairie, was arrested and
charged with the crimes of negligent injuring (4-counts),
reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and contributing to the
delinquency of a juvenile (3-counts). The arrest occurred as
the result of an investigation of a traffic crash that occurred
on Sunday, December 30, 2007, at 0240 hours, in the 2200 block
of Williams Boulevard, Kenner, which left 4 teenagers injured
with both critical and moderate injures.
On December 30, 2007,
Shafer was driving a 2000 Dodge Neon, in the 2200 block of
Williams Boulevard. The investigation revealed that at the time
of the crash, Shafer had been swerving from lane to lane,
“shuffle steering” the steering wheel in a playful manner, and
traveling to fast for the weather and road conditions (heavy
rain and wet roadway). Shafer lost control of the vehicle, ran
off the roadway, and crashed into a light pole.

from Kenner, received 3 stitches in his upper lip, a fractured

delinquency of a juvenile charge is based on the fact that
Shafer aided and permitted the three juveniles to remain away
from their residence without their parents’ permission or
