Suspect Arrested
For Attempted Murder of Kenner Police Officer
Kenner - On
Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at approximately 6:39 A.M., a
Kenner Police Officer stopped a vehicle driven by Dywand Dennis,
age 22, of 1599 Jefferson Dr, LaPlace, LA. for a minor traffic
infraction. While being interview by the officer, Dywand Dennis
attacked the officer and was able to enter his vehicle. While
attempting to detain Dennis, the officer was partially pulled
into the vehicle. Dennis placed his vehicle in drive dragging
the officer for approximately 100 feet. Officers responding to
the scene became involved in a vehicle pursuit with the suspect
into the Hanson City area of Kenner. During the pursuit, Dennis
threw a large bag from the vehicle, which was recovered. The
pursuit continued until Dennis abandoned his vehicle in the 800
block of Short St. Dennis was captured after a short foot chase.
Inside the bag thrown from
the vehicle, officers discovered 412.6 grams of marijuana.
Dennis has a previous
conviction for Possession with the Intent to Distribute
Marijuana and Aggravated Flight from an Officer.
Dywand Dennis is charged
with Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer,
Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana and numerous
traffic violations.
The officer was treated at
a local hospital from minor injuries and released.
