Man wanted in connection with an attempted murder on a police officer arrested in Kenner

KENNER – On Monday, August 25, 2008, at 8:45 pm, Kenner police arrested Victor Manuel Vasquez, age 23, of 3528 Delaware Avenue, apartment B, Kenner, Louisiana, after receiving information from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department that Vasquez was possibly in the 3500 block of Delaware Avenue in Kenner. Vasquez was suspected of firing shots at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Andy Riddle on August 4, 2008, and fleeing during a traffic stop. Vasquez was considered armed and dangerous. Vasquez was also wanted out of York County, South Carolina.

Officers assigned to Kenner’s Special Response Team set up surveillance on Delaware Avenue and observed Vasquez leaving in a vehicle. Vasquez was taken into custody in the Wal Mart parking lot at 300 West Esplanade Avenue in Kenner, without incident. In the vehicle at the time of Vasquez’s arrest was a 15 year-old female, who Vasquez identified as his girlfriend.

During an interview, the 15 year-old female admitted having sexual intercourse with Vasquez in Kenner and North Carolina during a four month period. The 15 year-old female who did not have family members in the Kenner area was taken into custody by the Office of Community Services/Child Protection. Kenner police are not sure how long Vasquez has been in the Kenner area.

Vasquez was charged in Kenner with the following:

  1. Felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile – for the sexual relationship involving the 15 year-old female
  2. North Carolina warrant – attempt murder and assault with a firearm upon a law enforcement officer
  3. South Carolina warrant – grand larceny, breaking & entering of motor vehicle, criminal conspiracy
