Kenner
woman wears red wig to aid in her crimes
KENNER – On Monday, August 25, 2008,
at 9:05 am, Pamela Smith, age 52, of 4344 Indiana Avenue,
Kenner, was arrested in the 3100 block of Williams Boulevard,
after she was suspected of fraudulently withdrawing $5,000.00,
from the victim’s checking account between July 4 and August 17,
2008, without permission. Video surveillance images taken from
Hancock Bank revealed the person responsible for conducting the
fraudulent withdrawals from the ATM machine had red hair.
A manager with Hancock Bank contacted
Kenner Police on Monday after observing a female at the ATM
machine with red hair. Officers located the female identified as
Pamela Smith, a short distance from the bank. Smith was found to
be in possession of a red wig, the victim’s Louisiana driver’s
license, and a Hancock Bank check/debit card embossed in the
victim’s name.
Kenner police suspect that Smith was able
to fraudulently use the victim’s driver’s license to obtain the
check/debit card, which allowed her access to the victim’s
checking account.
Smith was charged with the following:
-
Identity theft valued at $5,000.00
-
Access device fraud
-
Fraudulent acquisition of a credit card
Officer Brian Fogarty is in charge of the
investigation. Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with
information on this incident to contact the Kenner Police
Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
