Police Arrest Woman After Chase
Kenner- The Kenner
Police Department is investigating a hit & run crash that
occurred in the 1400 Block of Airline Drive in Kenner.
On August 14, 2008 at
approximately 3:33 P.M., the Kenner Police Department was
advised by the Jefferson Parish Sherriff’s Office that a Honda
Accord was traveling west on Airline Drive on the eastbound side
of the roadway. The vehicle had already been involved in a Hit &
Run crash at Wilker Neal & Airline Drive in Metairie. The Honda
ran a red light at the intersection of Airline Drive & the
Airport Access striking a vehicle. The Honda continued west
striking the concrete barrier wall in the 1000 Block of Airline
Drive. The Honda then swerved into the westbound lanes of
traffic striking a third vehicle.
The driver of the Honda
exited the vehicle with her one (1) year old son and fled on
foot. Upon approaching a seven (7) foot road divider, the
driver raised her son to the top of the fence and allowed the
child drop to the adjoining roadway. The driver climbed the
divider, picked up her son and continued to flee on foot. The
driver was arrested as she attempted to hide among some shrubs
along the Airport Access Road.
The child was transported
to a local hospital where he appears to have sustained no
injuries.
The driver, Christine L.
Bird age 38 of 3766 Roman Street, Metairie, Louisiana, was
charged with Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Hit & Run
Driving, Driving While Intoxicated, Child Endangerment, Cruelty
to a Juvenile, and Possession of Marijuana.
Chief Steve Caraway urges
anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the
Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at
(504) 822-1111.
