Maj. Ronald Coupel

Commander of Operations

Maj. Ronald Coupel began his career with the Kenner Police Department in 1974, and is a graduate of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Academy. He served in the Patrol Division from 1974 until 1985 when he was assigned to the Narcotics Investigative Section, and was selected as a member of the S.W.A.T. Team.

In late 1986 he was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division, where he remained until 1990 when he was selected as the Commander of the Narcotics Investigation Division. He was promoted to Sergeant in April of 1991 and continued command of the Narcotics Section until late 1996.

He is qualified as an expert in Narcotics Investigations in both the 24th Judicial District and the United States Federal Courts. In 1996, he was selected as a Watch Commander in the Patrol Division and served in that position until January 2001, when he was promoted to Lieutenant. He is the former Commander of the Technical Services Bureau, which encompasses Fiscal Affairs, Property Management, Communications, and the Headquarters and Jail Sections.

In 2002, he was promoted to Captain. Maj. Coupel has received extensive training in investigation and management during his career, attending the Institute of Police Technology and Management, the Drug Enforcement Administration Training Academy, the Northwestern University Traffic Institute, the Southwestern Law Enforcement Institute, and the National Institute of Ethics.

Additionally, he was selected as the first member of the Department to attend the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute Administrative Officers Course in Kentucky, where he graduated on the Dean’s List, maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

In 2006, he assumed the duties of Commander of Operations and was promoted to the rank of Major, which is second in command to the Chief of Police.
