Chief
Steve Caraway began his career with the Kenner Police Department
in 1977,
following a three-year tour of duty as a Military Police Officer
in the United States Marine Corps.
During his first seven years of service
with the Kenner Police Department, Chief Caraway was assigned to
the Patrol Division. In 1984, he was assigned to the
Criminal Investigations Division where he remained until 1990,
at which time he was tasked with establishing the Office of
Training and Development.
In 1991, Chief Caraway was promoted to the
rank of Sergeant, remaining in the Office of training and
Development until 1996, at which time he returned to the
Criminal/Narcotics Investigations Division as Commander.
In 1998, Chief Caraway was promoted to the
rank of Lieutenant and was placed in command of the
Investigative and Support Services Bureau.
Chief Caraway was promoted to the rank of
Captain in 2002, during which time he continued to serve as the
Commander of the Investigative and Support Services Bureau.
During Chief Caraway’s career, he received
training and certification as an instructor in numerous
disciplines of law enforcement. Chief Caraway is a 1994
graduate of the FBI National Academy.
