Major Dwane Babin began his career with the Kenner Police Department's Airport Division in 1977.  He was assigned to the Patrol Division after one year and remained there until 1981, when he was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division.

He was promoted to Sergeant in 1995 and was assigned to the Patrol Division as Commander of 1st watch.  He has served as S.W.A.T. Field Commander since 2001.

In 2002, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as a Platoon Commander.  Major Babin has been a member of the S.W.A.T. Team since 1987 and is a certified law enforcement instructor.  He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, completing his curriculum in 1998.  In 2006, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and assumed the duties of Commander of Investigative and Support Services.

In 2008, he assumed the duties of Commander of Operations and was promoted to the rank of Major, which is second in command to the Chief of Police.
