Lieutenant Darren Minvielle was raised in
New Orleans, attending Holy
Cross High School
and Loyola
University. He began his career
with the Kenner Police Department in December 1980 and was
assigned to the Airport Division. Lieutenant Minvielle
attended the Louisiana State
University
P.O.S.T.
Basic
Training
Academy in 1983. He
obtained his Public Safety Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver
certification in 1983 and became a member of the Rescue Team
Lieutenant Minvielle was assigned to the
Patrol Division in 1990. In 1994 Lieutenant Minvielle was
selected as the Report Screening Officer. In 1995 he was
selected as the Community Relations / Crime Prevention Officer,
and appointed Public Information Officer. In 1995 Lieutenant
Minvielle was certified by the National Organization of Black
Law Enforcement Officers to train Officers in Cultural
Diversity. He also earned his certification as a Crime
Prevention Practitioner through the
University
of Louisville in Kentucky.
In April 1996 Lieutenant Minvielle was
appointed Field Services Bureau Staff Officer. In December 1996
he was promoted to Sergeant and appointed Commander of the
Internal Affairs Division and a member of the Chief’s Staff.
Lieutenant Minvielle has earned certifications in Statement
Analysis, as an F.B.I / P.O.S.T. Instructor, a Computer Voice
Stress Analysis operator, Ethics in Law Enforcement Instructor,
and several levels of the Department of Homeland Security’s
Incident Management System.
In December 1998 Lieutenant Minvielle
completed a three month Police Staff and Command Program at
Northwestern
University in
Evanston, Illinois.
Lieutenant Minvielle was promoted to his current rank in August
2005. In July 2008, Lieutenant Minvielle was appointed Support
Services Bureau Commander and manages the Jail Section,
Communications Section, Internal Affairs Division and Applicant
Investigation Unit, the Office of Training and Development, and
the Community Education Section.
